Because of the declining quality of the threads posted here, I've updated the FSI to include a guide on posting suggestions. Enjoy.
Before posting
Before you start posting a thread for your suggestion, check that there isn't already a thread on the same subject. There's a list of common threads below, and there's also a search feature located between citizen rules and FAQ. Use the advanced search to only search this forum and it's fairly easy to find duplicate suggestions.
If you post a thread that has already been posted, your thread will probably be locked, and you will likely recieve harsh responses from me and other members of this forum.
Likewise, if your idea would be an addition to an existing suggestion rather than a suggestion by itself, it goes in that suggestion's thread. As a rough guide, imagine that the other idea had never existed. If your idea would still make sense without it, you can probably post it.
Coping with multiple ideas
If you have more than one suggestion, that's good. However, you should treat them as separate suggestions. This means that you should make a separate thread for each one, after searching for duplicates of course. You also need to put the same amount of effort into each as you would for a single suggestion.
Posting lists of unrelated suggestions is not useful. It makes it difficult or impossible to discuss any of them, and usually results in the poster not putting detail behind the idea. It's also not uncommon in lists for many of the suggestions to be duplicates.
Posting
Now that you have your suggestion and have ensured that it's not a duplicate, you can post it. There are several ways to get a better reception.
First, try and use good grammar and spelling, especially if English is your first language. Punctuation is also important. Most people will get a bad impression from a suggestion that is written in 'tardspeak'; others will simply ignore it.
Second, explain your suggestion fully. Don't just say 'A police station'*- explain what will be in it. The more details you can post, the more there is to discuss, encouraging people to improve the suggestion.
*Don't say it anyway- it's already been suggested.
Polls
While putting a poll in your suggestion isn't necessary, it's not really a bad thing. Just make sure it's related to the suggestion. "Do you like this idea?" is a good poll. Do you like pudding? isn't, as is putting inane answers in a "Do you like this idea?" poll.
The noob excuse
A lot of suggestions get shot down because of the 'noob excuse'. This is basically that the idea in question could be abused by noobs/spammers/multis/etc.
Many things can be abused, so, when commenting, don't reject suggestions for this reason. The abuse will often be dealt with by the mods, since it would usually break the rules. However, if your suggestion can be abused, try and mention how such abuse could be dealt with.
The 'hard to code' excuse
I am doing a degree in Computer Science. Several members of these forums know about coding.
If you have no idea what you're talking about, please don't shoot down a suggestion with 'It might be hard to code'. It really doesn't help.
On the other hand, if you see people who know what they are talking about claiming that a suggestion wouldn't work, don't mindlessly quote this when you have no knowledge of coding/servers/computer science.
Frequent suggestions
These get suggested a lot, partially because they are good ideas.
Where there are multiple threads, I have chosen either the longest thread of that idea, or the first incarnation of it. I also tend to base my decision on the quality of the first post.
Barber Shop- a location where users can change their hairstyle, for a price.
Instruments- allowing people to purchase and play musical instruments.
Swimming- Swimming in the water at the beach.
Jobs- Jobs in BTC that pay credits.
Vehicles- Vehicles to travel around BTC.
Phones- Mobile phones for contacting other citizens.
Weather- Weather in BTC.
Kitchens- Using furniture in apartments to make food.
Christmas Cards- Sending Christmas cards to other citizens.
Warbears Ebay- A method of selling furniture to other players.
The next quest- A new secret location or BTC adventure.
Room queues - A method of entering room 2, or queuing for room 1.
Remove kissing- Remove the kissing feature or make it less annoying.
Day and Night - A cycle of day and night in BTC.
New actions - New actions.
New emotes - Different emotes. This thread also covers actions.
Pet store- A store to buy pets and suggestions for other pet types.
Arcade- An arcade with games.
A mall- A mall.
Hats- Purchasing or wearing hats.
Height and weight- Adjusting the height and weight of your citizen.
Costumes- Special holiday outfits such as santa suits.
Playing as a Warbear in BTC- The idea of playing as a warbear in BTC borders between frequently sugested and rejected suggestions. It probably goes against the canon storyline, judging by the end of mission 3. It doesn't need suggesting again
New food places-
A cafe
A restaurant
A burger bar
- A new place to eat.
Rejected ideas
These ideas have been posted before and rejected. Posting them again doesn't help.
Make credits easier to earn- This refers specifically to people simply suggesting "More ways to earn credits- it's too hard". If you have a specific idea that would allow people to earn credits, post away.
Make furniture cheaper- Rejected- See above.
Marriage- Rejected for many reasons, especially that it promotes cybering. Incidentally, if I see another thread about this, I'm going to ask the poster if they would make this system allow same-sex marriage.
UPDATED: I did and I will do it again, next time in such a way that it will derail the thread. You have been warned.
Kids- Rejected for similar reasons to marriage.
Fridges in apartments- Currently not going to happen. The server can't handle it.
Trading/Gifting items- Rejected because it encourages people to make multiple accounts.
PMing multiple people- Currently not going to happen. This is a feature of PHPBB 3, the WB forums use PHPBB 2.
Giving users the power to kick/ban - Giving mod powers to people who aren't mods is a bad idea. No matter what criteria are used for this system, it will be abused and create more work for the mods. If the mods wanted to get more moderating done, they'd appoint a new mod. _________________ Rorschach avatar by Benjamin Lebowski.
Not a moderator. I don't know why people keep getting this idea.

Yay, now new-comers can go in here first and see what has been said. Also, it gives the MODS and excuse to warn people. xD _________________ Twitter |

Unfortunately, most newbies doesn't read stickies before posting. But it's a good idea anyway. _________________

Well, that still wouldn't really work out.
I think the only way to do any of this would be to have on
Please Read" stickies, you get a reward, like 20 credits or something, for reading the whole thing, but you never know if people actually read them. |

Those ideas were good!
Specialy that weather.
Would be cool if there would be winter or else cool weathers.
