important!!!
I'm finally revealing the first in a series of my Warbears themed competitions
Submissions will begin on the upcoming Monday and will end on the following Friday. You can start your entry whenever you choose, but it has to be in my inbox before 00:00 GMT on Friday the 26th of June - meaning that the final day you can enter on is Thursday the 25th of June.
The first competition is:
I want you to create a Warbears or Bedtime City (etc.) comic without using any of the assets from Warbears or BTC - so all of your pictures have to be created from scratch. This can be anything you want - pixel-art, hand-drawn, whatever - as long as it somehow links to Warbears or BTC.
A good example of this is Tango's first entry to Comic Island III - it's original, it's clearly linked to Warbears/BTC and it's funny.
Again, it can be any style you want, so I'm expecting some variety here. I realize that it might be kinda hard to just think up a comic idea just like that, so here's a small theme that I'll let you interpret and use on your own: I want something to make me feel nostalgic; a comic that will both be funny and bring back an old Warbears/BTC feeling that's like "Oh god, I remember doing that" or "Those were the days" - besides that, it can be absolutely anything.
SO, as a recap:
>It must be in my inbox before Friday the 26th of June (00:00 GMT). It can be sent before then, but I won't be opening them until Monday as I'm busy, and by busy I mean season 3 of Orange is the New Black comes out this weekend
>The entries will be posted on Friday the 26th of June
>It must be a comic ABOUT/TO DO WITH Warbears/BTC but without using ANY assets (i.e pictures of citizens, the locations, the warbears, etc) used in the comic - feel free to use them for reference though (they're all available on the Warbears Wiki)
>It can be any art style as long as it's in the format of a comic
>The top three entries will be decided between me, Jurgen and Niall
>The winner from the top three will then be decided by voting on the forums (is this overkill? Somebody feel free to step in and tell me not to do this if you think this is wrong)
>Make it nostalgic
RULES:
>No teams
>One entry per person
>Only themes/language that you'd get away with in a normal comic - see Bjorn's comics for the upper limit of this
>For the love of God don't steal somebody else's art
Good luck, have fun, and may the best comic win
PS: I'm starting to get ideas about prizes - but it's kinda secret right now! I'll get back to y'all on a later date
PPS: Is it okay if each competition has a new thread? The old ones can be deleted/archived if there gets to be too many, and I can announce the new competition in results thread of the former one to minimize this if need-be, but each time people vote will need a new poll, right? I doubt there'll be any more than one competition a month, though, and if we decide that public voting is overkill we can just keep them all to this thread and I'll update the title each time

Was thinking of entering but probably won't.
It's been too long methinks. |

Bjorn, if you join, them I'm in.
At present moment I don't have the tools, the time, the motivation or the creative output to do anything significant, but if there is one thing I can handle it is the shame and humiliation that will come from failure as long as I get a chance to watch you try! Let's throw asterisks at the wall and see what sticks _________________ TUB THREAD.

Ok dude, I'll give it a squirt, but only because I want to see what you create!
Best download some image editing software I guess! |

Wait wait so apparently there's like only one day left to do this? I'm starting to think Twig intentionally shared this thread with me so that he could watch me make a fool of myself _________________ TUB THREAD.

So regarding no "use of assets" does that include fonts and the like? What about Forum screencaps? _________________ TUB THREAD.

Good question! I've received questions about the font before so I'm going to allow use of the "Mr Bear" and "Mrs Bear" fonts - this is because while it is entirely a Warbears resource, it conveys the same image that any other font would. That is to say, the reason I disallowed Warbears assets is so I can see what you can do without them, and, in my opinion, what you can display through text is not affected by what font you use - unless it's say, comic sans for comedic effect.
I'm also going to allow use of forum posts, but be mindful of how you use them. While something may be allowed, it doesn't make it inherently good or interesting or funny, obviously. Also, I don't want to see something JUST made of forum posts, but I'm not going to disallow it, because there's probably some really interesting possibilities available there.
I'm also going to extend the finish date - this is only my first competition so I didn't realise how long it would take to herd you all up and get your submissions in, and I didn't take the possibility of certain issues into account, which will delay things a bit.
So, as of today I am extending submission date to the 26th.
EDIT: to clarify, the speech bubbles used in Warbears and BTC are absolutely not allowed, but forum posts and the Mr Bear/Mrs Bear fonts are allowed. |

I guess I have no excuse now.
So what are you people using these days as picture editing software? Are Paint.net and Gimp still a viable thing or really outdated? _________________ TUB THREAD.
