Let's talk about major footballing nations here.
Italy: To me, a bit of an unknown factor. I can't call whether they stand a chance.
France: From my (limited) knowledge, the current French squad is weak. However, the next World Cup is 2014 - time for them to build.
England: No. Just, no. Our current squad is nearing retirement (or major members of it are), and our U21 squad is weak. So England can be immediately ruled out, barring miracles.
Spain: A world-class squad, deserved champions last time. They'll be hard to beat, but I think they'll be weaker by this coming World Cup in 2014, as their squad starts to age (losing members like the talismanic Casillas).
Germany: Their young squad proved very skilled in 2010, and by 2014 they'll be a fully developed worldbeating side. The young talent they showed here would have matured greatly - I feel that Germany may well be 2014's champions.
Portugal: Skilled, but not skilled enough.
Uruguay: Have a couple of talismanic players (Forlan, Suarez), who will make life difficult for opponents. However, as a whole team, I don't feel they have the strength to take the WC.
Argentina: The best set of forwards of any country. If they can tighten up their defence even a little, then they've got massive chances. But their defence at present is far too easy to break for them to stand a chance.
Brazil: Their time is past, a little, I'd feel. Their greatest squad is in the past. I'm not certain of what young talent they have - they might have far more available to them as it reaches the date - but I don't feel they'll be worldbeaters.
So, for me, Germany would be the favourite. But I may be wrong. =P |

This last WC finals seemed like a fluke, Germany vs. Argentina was the most fun to watch.
I would put strong chances on Germany or Spain. |

but Mexico might ruin the chances of some good teams tough |
