I want to use a GIF in MovieMaker, but I think I need to convert it to an AVI first, otherwise it doesn't move. |

Use Hypercam to record the gif being played somewhere else. |

Just saying 'Trust me' doesn't help.
Why exactly isn't it that easy? Can't install things? If you'd like I can do it for you and just send you the AVI file. _________________

Or be a super cool kid and printscreen every frame and save each as .png.
I dare you. I bet it's totally aggravating. _________________ Twitter |

Where does it save my AVI once I record it? |

You can set that as you like. I think it saves in My Documents by default. |

I recorded, but it only recorded it as an image. Not a gif. What now? |

You need to record the GIF as an AVI. Make sure you press the right button. |

I'll explain it step by step:
1. Open Hypercam
2. Open the GIF on the site where you found it
3. Click select region in Hypercam and select the GIF
4. Press Start Rec and record the gif.
5. Press Stop Rec. |

Maybe I should do this on my house computer, not this laptop. |

Since you're working with ridiculously different file formats (GIFs are image files and hard to work with as is and AVI files are movie files) so you're not making this very easy. A general rule of thumb is that if there are no converters for the job, DIY it. Funny's solution would do for that.
Also, take note that we are not (I repeat, NOT) your personal tech support. Please only use these forums if you are really stumped. Google is your best friend. _________________ ^captincroc |

Captin is right, gif and avi files are very different and difficult to convert to from one to another. My solution would be to use a gif frame extractor to get all the frames, then use some sort of video making/editing program to put all the frames in sequence. _________________
