The egg, because dinosaurs laid eggs, and they existed well before chickens. >.> _________________

Chicken.
I was going to put a comment about somebody yelling out something about Christianity but I'd rather not.
Quite frankly, I'd rather not evangelize over the Net.
It's kinda awkward and a bad place for a religious discussion.

Eggs, once laid, need to be kept warm and safe until the animal inside is ready to come out. Once that happens, the young animal is usually too small to get its food, etc and also very vulnerable. It needs somebody to give it food and protect it.
Therefore, the egg-laying animal came before the egg, because if the egg had come first the animal inside would have died before coming out of there.
Yes, I gave this a lot of thought. _________________

Sheena has a great point...but I shall revive this discussion by saying:
"What if the first egg from which a chicken to emerge wasn't layed by a chicken?"
I Sam and max (by telltale, second season) there was a funny part where the two would go back in time to the beginning of the universe and they would find two things there: something the size of an orange that hinted to be exploding soon, and a chicken. they would replace the chicken with an egg which they would actually get from the same chicken later due to a loop in time. _________________ Chaotic good:

Thanks for reminding me. Now I remember the rest of my argument.
Apparently chicken involved from something that is only close but not entirely a chicken. If a chicken must be able to lay eggs to be counted as a chicken, and we assume that the first chicken had to mutate/involve from whatever they were, it is likely that the first egg-laying chicken was hatched from an egg to start with. _________________
