Sorry if this isn't where it should go, but the rules are here so...

What are the swear words on BTC?
No, I'm not asking you to make a big list of "naughty" words.
But why are some words censored and others not?
I was recently reported for swearing, specifically, saying "the d word" after not getting an answer correct in quizaboom.
A mod however ( I won't say who because I don't want to point fingers) told me a while ago that if it's not censored then it's okay to say, unless used violently against someone else.

So please, a mod, Ioji, an informed citizen, whoever, what's defined as swearing in BTC, or censor the other "naughty" words so people like me may not be confused about the subject.

And while we're at it, please also give a better definition of spamming, some members don't quite understand that idea too well either...

Rule #4

No Spamming.
This includes repeating a phrase over and over, pounding the keyboard (random letters) and overusing caps.

No idea what to say about the swearing thing, however

They are currently two words which origin is debatable: crap, and that d word. Both aren't currently considered as curses. (even if d is censored on the forum.) But basically, if something is censored, (the three asterisks), it is considered as swearing and reportable. Avoiding the filter by misspelling these words is too.

And just to point out it may not look censored to you but is on other peoples screens.

If we're discussing the filter, can I ask why gay is censored but **** isn't?

Don't ask me about which words are on and which ones aren't (Ioji can handle that) but I'll say how I deal with swears again:

As you can see on the *new-and-improved* BTC rules, no swearing, which includes misspelling and replacements with symbols...First off, I always warn for the b-, s-, f- words, censored or not. I never warn for 'crap' unless it's part of spamming. With 'd---' I rarely ever warn; I usually will only warn if it's in caps and if it's directed at someone. Or if it's part of flaming. Or if you say God before it.

In any case I usually check the background. I think so far I've never warned for 'd---'.

And Cmonster is right, I said that saying 'd---' is ok unless (see above).

So I don't warn the person who said d---, but I also don't warn the reporter...some people get offended.

No they don't Confused

Obviously to get onto the log every single comic goes through me, which means I am basically the comic screening; I check every single one for anything that might deem it inappropriate. And no, you can't swear just because it's a comic.

Of course! Since I wasn't so stupid to know, Rowena posts them up. She sees them while posting. And believe me: That barfing comic I asked Row to put up, she couldn't do it. And.........I think it would be inapropriatte from all that barfing... Nvm. But swearing definds to covering a words with * or the other use of covering. Swearing does match to cursing. Cursing is a little different. Cursing definds to saying what the h word (not h word I meant the word) Or the D word (Not D word) And putting God in that word. If someone swears warn them first. Just find in BTC Discussion. Look Reporting and find that answer. Ok back to the answer. If someone does it again THEN REPORT THE CITIZEN On either cursingor swearing 3rd time then ignore the citizen. If a mod is invisible and online, the mod will kick or ban the citizen. For more inforemation: Log on BTC and click BTC Law! Click it again when you're done. (I'd rather read the whole thing....)

Glad we get to clear this up.

Anything that comes through censored or that would but theyve used stars/numbers to replace certain letters you can report.

Things that don't get censored but you think is swearing you can't.

End. Of. Story.

What about typing asterisks to pretend you're swearing?

Obviously those appear as if theyre censored so warn them then report them.
