Ok, we've ('we' being the mods collaboratively) decided to shorten the leash with warning and banning, seeing as most offenders don't seem to learn their lesson, and aren't taking warnings/bans seriously enough.
As you can now see on your profile, the warning bars are two spaces shorter. After the bar is filled, it's bye-bye permaban for you. Warning system is as follows:
Warning, Warning (+ "next warning results in a ban" message), Ban, Warning (+ "next warning results in a ban" message), Ban, Warning, Permanent. So, 7 spaces total.
Typical first ban: 3 days
Second ban will be anywhere from 5 days to 2 weeks, depending.
Last ban is permanent.
-We do ban early if the cases are extreme. Especially with cybering.
And red bars now last 3 months (instead of 2) until Ioji programs his better system which apparently is going to be reeeeeeeallllly cool.

The new system sounds good. 
I think there should be different coloured blocks for temporary and permanent bans. Just to look neater. 
EDIT: And I just noticed the initials for Warnings/Bans form WB.

btw what happens to these people?
People who have 7, or 8 red bars before the change (which they wouldn't be peramently banned because the userbar wasn't full) to the 7, or 8 red bars after the change (now they have enough bars to be peramently banned)?

Eh, whatever. It's a new system; we're not going to go through and permaban (former) offenders.

What happens to the existing red bars? Do they last an extra month or do they disappear after just that two months?

Right now, they disappear after 3 months, since we feel that users aren't learning their lessons (therefore, the stretch period has extended, users can't get more than 7 in 3 months, as opposed to 9 in 2).
Ioji's coming up with a snazzy new system though, so for those of you with warnings that you can't wait to get rid of, sit tight.
